The first upgrade for the 1.6L engine gives a sensible improvement in power as the same being as affordable as possible. The kits comes with a MBE Ecu ready programmed & ready to run. As the cams fitted to the standard engine are very mild in duration & have very low lift, we have opted to run a cam profile with increases in duration & lift, however this means the valve springs & caps have to be replaced.

Due to the cams increased lift the pistons need to be replaced with Omega high compression pistons; these have deeper valve pockets, however the rods must be replaced. You should be looking to achieve 11.5:1 compression ratio, you may need to machine the crown or use a thicker Cometic head gasket to achieve this desired result.

Due to the increase in lobe height on some occasions, it may be necessary to modify the head casting slightly to allow the lobes to clear.

Also the new valve springs are of a slightly larger diameter and the head-casting diameter will need to be increased at the base of the spring.
