Series sponsor Steve Broughton climbed from seventh-fastest qualifier to take his championship victory at Snetterton last weekend. Broughton optimised the car's handling on his first run. It was glued to the road through the Esses and Bombhole where puddles caused several spinners. Andrew Platt twitched his way to second, while Terry Holmes' wet weather skills led to the Chichester chippy climbing from 11th qualifier to third. Tony Wiltshire put in a steady performance for fourth with Simon Ashby climbing up the order to take fifth. Bristolian Kevin Lealan qualified and finished sixth. Roger Kilty, who set the best time of the day in the first dry qualifier, was a philosophical seventh after bogging the start and indulging in a quick 360 at Sear. Martin Dowling slithered down the order from third qualifier to eighth, the fearless Dave Sims took a well-earned ninth and John Sampson - in the brutal Xtreme - took tenth but had a monumental scare on his second run with a tank slapper at the Esses. In the supporting programme, Roy Wine burbled his way to victory in the GTD GT40 class. Brian Winstone took a crushing win with his Porsche GT3RS - more than two seconds clear of the rest. Ian Crocker rumbled hone in his S Eight, while Graham Miller starred with his sideways antics in the Escort-Vauxall. Iain Houston took the Formula Ford class in a tight battle with Martin Pickles. Sevenoaks' Matthew Oliver was the star of the south-east contingent with his triple spin at Bombhole. |
