Frequently
Asked Questions - Turbo Engines
|
| |
Question:
I'm using an MBE9A4 ECU with a turbocharged Duratec engine and i have a
question about the turbo boost control valve wiring. The valve has two wires,
12v and ground, i'm going to conect the 12v directly to the battery, but
do i connect the ground directly to the ECU pin 33 or do i have to use a
relay in between? Meaning, does the ECU handle the current requirement of
the valve?
Answer:
The 12v supply must be ignition switched and you connect the negative
side of your valve directly to Pin 33, the pin can draw up to 1amp. You
must not use an external device such as a relay, it is too slow.

| Question:
Can I use Bosch yellow injectors for a Calibra Turbo?
Answer:
We never use the Bosch yellow injectors as used in the turbo engine. The
reason for this is that any engines we have programmed use a larger injector
as the standard injector appears to run out of flow fairly early on in
tuning. We have heard of some companies using the Yellow on high output
engines, but the tests we have made, show they are pushing the injector
too close to its limit, which in our opinion means sometimes it would
work ok, and other times it would supply fuel incorrectly, which is likely
to cause damage

| Question:
We busy changing the 20 XE to accept a turbo charger & would like to
know whether the standard injector setup supply enough fuel with boost @
0.5 bar, if they cannot must we go for a extra injector(s) in the boost
pipe or four bigger 400cc injectors. We would like to know your ideas.
Answer:
The standard XE injectors should just about cope with 0.5 bar of boost.
Normally when we have programmed peoples turbo charged engines,
we replace them with a higher flow injector. But since you are not looking
for a lot of boost, the standard injector will just about cope but with
no more. We would probably use a magnetti marelli injector, which is a
14ohm injector, which will cope with the kind of fueling you require.
are a direct replacement with the original injector positions.
